Bruce Arians on the Growth of Jamel Dean
2 min read
Jamel Dean gets a lot of criticism from people for not turning his head around fast enough when a pass is coming in his direction. Dean has been improving on this weakness and utilizing his speed to his advantage to have a good eye for the ball lately. Below is what Bruce Arians had to say about Jamel Dean’s growth.
“The only thing with him is just play the ball better. He gave up the one play – it was such a poor throw but he got his head around too late. Just continue to improve in that area. Great interception – he played that perfectly. When he’s playing man-to-man, he’s a tough cover. He’s got those long arms and he gets pretty physical with the guys. He’s getting better and better.”
Dean has been penalized quite a bit in his career due to not playing the ball and just playing the receiver. He continues to make strides to show that he can be one of the better man-to-man corners in the league. With more reps and being the team’s top corner due to injuries right now, he has done a solid job. I
n the last two games, Dean has an interception in each of them. With Carlton Davis III, Sean Murphy-Bunting, and Richard Sherman all out with injuries and different timetables, it’s the perfect time for Dean to turn the corner completely and become a top-tier defensive back.
