The Buccaneers have been hit hard with the injury bug early on this season and it looks like they dodged two major bullets against the Dolphins. QB Tom Brady and LB Lavonte David both suffered injuries during the game. Brady continued to play but David did not.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, QB Tom Brady suffered a thumb injury after his thumb hit a helmet yesterday but should be good to go for Thursday against the Eagles. Brady stayed in the game after the injury and absolutely destroyed the Miami Dolphins defense throwing for 411 yards and five touchdowns. The camera late in the game showed Brady on the sideline smiling and laughing while having his hand on ice. In his press conference, Brady was rocking a wrap on his thumb so they’re taking every precaution necessary to make sure the injury doesn’t affect his ability to play.
Rapoport also states that LB Lavonte David suffered a low-ankle sprain and is expected to be week-to-week. He will be out on Thursday against the Eagles on a short week. This is a relief for David as he got rolled up on a pass play by DL Ndamukong Suh and stayed down on the field for a few minutes in pain. With David missing time, expect LB Kevin Minter to step into the starting role opposite of LB Devin White.
