Gronkowski: by the record book

It stands now at 102 and counting — the number of touchdowns between Brady and Gronk. The record is 112 by Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison. When Gronk retired in 2019, the record was believed to be almost untouchable. Now that he and Tom Brady have been reunited in Tampa, they will probably break that record this season.

Another record that could fall this season is the one for most touchdowns in a season by a tight end — That record is already owned by Rob Gronkowski, with 17 set in 2011 with New England.

4 touchdowns in the first two games of a season for a tight end is also the most for a tight end in NFL History; in addition to that fact, the two touchdowns against the Cowboys last week, he passed Antonio Gates for the most multiple touchdown games by a tight end with 22 — make that 23 as of the Falcon’s game. As for all positions, Gronk passed up Larry Fitzgerald for 6th all-time in Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Gronk also is 3rd in most yards receiving for a tight end in a single season with 1,327 yards. That record at this point could also fall this season. More impressive numbers for Gronkowski are postseason receiving yards, which he comes in at #1 for tight-ends. For postseason touchdowns, Gronk comes in at second behind only the greatness that is Jerry Rice.

It is believed that he should be in Tampa for as long as Brady. No one knows for sure how long that will be. One thing’s for sure; he will be setting more records and adding to others. He is a sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Famer when his playing days are over. Bucs fans hope that won’t be for a good while. Go Bucs!!
