3 Bucs Who Could Shine In Their Back Up Role

The second-year back from Vanderbilt, who was the Bucs third-round selection in 2020, could easily be a sleeper in this regard. In a loaded running back room (that includes Ronald Jones II, Leonard Fournette, and Giovanni Bernard), Vaughn will have to settle for a role on special teams, will indeed be a player to watch. The defending Super Bowl Champions could easily enter the regular season with a four-headed monster. Even if Vaughn were to have limited touches again this season, he could very well give the league another glimpse of his potential.
In Saturday’s preseason matchup against the Bengals, Vaughn was able to find the endzone in the first quarter to put the Bucs ahead 6-0, while also shining in his special team’s role as the Bucs kickoff returner. Although he didn’t have plays that easily jumped off the stat sheet, he did make his case regarding making a roster spot. Given time and opportunity, Vaughn could potentially become the guy behind Ronald Jones in the future.
In limited action, Tryon recorded a sack in his debut that resulted in one of the worst flags for unsportsmanlike conduct; EVER. Truth be told: The flag was possibly thrown to help the Bengals’ offensive lineman save face since they seemed to have no answer for stopping Tryon.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Todd Bowles already has some packages designed that have JPP, Barrett, and Tryon crashing into the opposing team’s backfield.
When the rookie from the University of Florida entered the game Saturday night against the Bengals, he had much of Buc Nation excited when he showed off his cannon of an arm. Not all the glimmers are gold, though, as Trask’s debut wasn’t the greatest of performances, but he looked about what you’d expect from someone who was learning the NFL’s speed for the first time in his career.
Trask’s future success indeed does sit on his shoulders since he has been afforded such a great opportunity, but time will tell how things will turn out for the young man in the future. Rookie quarterback Kyle Trask could possibly have the best gig in all of the NFL at this moment, sitting behind and learning from the greatest of all time, Tom Brady. And thankfully for the Bucs, there’s no rush for them to put Trask on the field.
