Jordan Whitehead’s return to practice is short-lived.

Jordan Whitehead began practicing on July 31, 2021, following his recovery from shoulder surgery for an injury sustained in last season’s NFC Championship game. He ultimately missed out on preseason activities and also found himself on the Covid Reserve List. However, he had missed practice the last few days. No explanation for the injury has been given yet.

When Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians was asked if the reason was due to injury, BA was a little vague in stating, “Well, we’ve got to wait and see.” When specifically asked if it was a shoulder injury, Arians stated that “We’ll find out.” As of Wednesday, “he’s still out.”

In reading between the lines, it does seem that Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead could miss a little bit of time, but the Buccaneers are not in bad shape. Buccaneers do have several safeties on the roster that can compete on the opposite side of Antoine Winfield, Jr. for the time being and will be good to go if Whitehead’s injury is significant.

Safety Mike Edwards has been a standout in training camp, so he will step up in his place until he returns. Bruce Arians calls Mike Edwards a ballhawk and says he has taken a nice step forward.

“Oh, he’s been a ball hawk. He obviously had a great day yesterday, [Monday], a good solid day every single day. He’s communicating so much better. He’s really made a nice step forward.”

Hopefully, Whitehead’s injury is not significant enough to keep him sidelined for too long. He has close to a month to get healthy before the Buccaneers take on the Dallas Cowboys.
