A quarterback from an NFC South rival is picking the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win Super Bowl LV, and this is not a joke. Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is picking Tampa Bay to win Super Bowl LV in their home stadium, where the cannons won’t fire. I would not expect a player from a division rival would be about picking one of his rivals and especially in the biggest game in football. The Atlanta Falcons are currently the biggest rival of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and have been since the two teams joined the NFC South in 2002.
“As much as it pains me to say that I felt like their defense was one of the most difficult for us to go against, we had to face them twice,” Ryan said during an appearance on 680 The Fan’s “The Front Row on Wednesday, per Falcons reporter Kelsey Conway. “Offensively, they’ve gotten better the entire year and I think they’re playing their best football right now. I think it’s going to be a close game; both of those teams are really good.”
I think Matt Ryan has a lot of respect for Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady. The two quarterbacks met face to face back in Super Bowl LI, and that was when Atlanta held a 28-3 lead, but Tom Brady led New England back to a 34-28 overtime win in Houston. The current Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback was the Super Bowl MVP on that night at NRG Stadium and that earned him his fifth Super Bowl ring.
Matt Ryan has struggled recently as the Falcons quarterback, but I doubt that he is the problem in Atlanta. He was taken as the third overall pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. I sure hope that him picking Tampa Bay over Kansas City and being an NFC South rival does not jinx the Buccaneers on Sunday. I guess we will hold him to that because he is a really good player and he has my respect.
