Buccaneers sign wide receiver Isaac Whitney to their practice squad today. His signing fills the 16th and final spot on the practice squad. Whitney has been in the league since May of 2017 when he signed with the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent. He was waived by the team that September, but was signed to the practice squad the following day. He was later promoted to the active roster at the end of November and saw 1 target while playing in two games.
The following year, the Raiders waived Whitney, who was signed to the Houston Texans practice squad, where he remained until January of 2019 when he signed a futures contract with the team, but was injured in July of 2019 and placed on injured reserve. The Texans waived Whitney earlier this month.
Isaac Whitney played two seasons (2015 and 2016) at the University of South California (USC) seeing action in 8 games, catching 11 passes for 144 yards and 2 touchdowns. The signing is not a wowing move by any length, but it does fill the practice squad with another wide receiver, incase any more injuries occur.
