PFT Names Shaq Barrett Defensive Player of the Year

1 min read

Shaquil Barrett, in a sense, was one man’s trash that was another man’s treasure. I mean no disrespect by that in any way. He was not a garbage player for the Denver Broncos, but of course, he was playing behind Von Miller.

In five seasons with the Broncos, he started only 15 times, but Barrett in one season in Bowles system here in Tampa, he surpassed his 14.0 sack total by 5.5 sacks, resulting in a landslide single-season franchise sack record of 19.5. The previous record was held by Warren Sapp’s long-standing-19-year 16.5 sacks. Barrett additionally forced six fumbles, which he only had seven during his stint with the Broncos. I bet Elway is kicking his own butt over allowing him to leave.

profootballtalk.nbcsports.com has given the SACK BEAST the title of Defensive Player of the Year. Although not NFL official, which still might just happen, it is a great honor to see a Buccaneers’ name listed in such high regard.

Barrett certainly came into Tampa with a chip on his shoulder. Arians wants to keep him, was actually one of the only player’s futures that he immediately spoke about. Sack Attack has surpassed all of our expectations and is most deserving of any honors thrown his way.
