Coming from Central Michigan, Sean Murphy-Bunting was not a sexy pick in a failing secondary. Many fans had a problem with big school corners still left on the board. Murphy-Bunting was selected 39th overall in the second round by the Buccaneers this past draft.
With Hargreaves still on Tampa’s roster, he started working in the slot. Occasionally he got his reps, but once Hargreaves was benched and eventually waived, Murphy- Bunting got his chance, and he has risen to the occasion. He was recently was named to the 201 NFL All-Rookie Team by NFL.com.
Murphy-Bunting is tied for the lead in interceptions among rookies, with 2 interceptions. His first interception was in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints QB Teddy Bridgewater, and his second was in late in the 4th quarter during Week 13’s contest against Jaguars’ QB Gardner Minshew.
Sean Murphy-Bunting has shown why Jason Licht and Bruce Arians took him high in the second round, and he is not showing any glimpse of slowing down. It will be interesting to see how he plays down the stretch.
