Is Byron a Good OC ?

2 min read

As I watched this game today, I could see the Arizona Cardinals on TV as well. I was thinking if Byron was a good or great OC. Would Rosen be in Miami, or Kyler Murray would be playing for Arizona with a new Head Coach?

I am not defending everything that Winston did today, but I will say you have to know your QB and what you are working with. I don’t think the play calling was good at all today. Winston is a QB who thrives on the rollout or run-pass option boot plays.

The O line was not that bad, but was not that good as they had 2 TD’s called back on some holding calls. When the Bucs went for it on 4th down, why did Winston not have a run option for that? He is a big QB that if he falls down, he gains 2-3 yards. That to me is not knowing your QB and trying to force a square peg in a round hole.

I didn’t see any teams courting Byron as OC after his season last year and I know it’s game one. I hope the play-calling gets better and Winston also has to make better game decisions as knowing when to take a sack and live to fight another day.

I also noticed Winston had some happy feet early. I am not sure why in year 5 you would have this unless he was just not comfortable with the game plan today. This has to play out 15 more games, but I am not sold on Lord Byron being the OC, or even talk of him being the successor after BA walks away from the game.

I know many of you will question what I am saying, but go back and look at when Winston looks at his best. He is out of the pocket and using his legs with his arm. I want to see adjustments by not only Winston, but also Byron as well Thursday night vs Carolina.
