As much as I respect Chris Simms, I think he is dead wrong when it comes to his ranking Jameis Winston as the 27th best quarterback in the NFL out of 40.
Obviously, there are 32 teams in the NFL so Simms is even counting some backup quarterbacks in his list of top 40 NFL QB’s. That’s ridiculous.
When it comes to the 32 NFL starting quarterbacks, in my opinion, I would rank Jameis Winston above Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Mitch Trubisky, Andy Dalton, Baker Mayfield, Dak Prescott, Joe Flacco, Josh Rosen, Eli Manning, Sam Darnold, Marcus Mariota, Jimmy Garrappolo and Dwayne Haskins. That’s 14 of the 32 NFL starting quarterbacks. That still leaves 17 starting QB’s better than Winston, because Winston is one of the 32 so he doesn’t count. He’s certainly better than all of the current backup QBs in the NFL. It blows my mind that after only one season in the NFL, Simms has Mayfield ranked 10 spots ahead of Winston at #17. That’s ridiculous!
Winston still has a lot to prove this year. He certainly has all of the potential to have an incredible year. He’s to hoping that happens. Go Bucs!
