Buccaneers Bring In Kicking Competition

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Danish kicker Phillip Anderson from the German NFL’s Berlin Rebels. Kicking woes have plagued the Bucs for years now, so bringing in competition at the position is not surprising. Andersen had impressed the Buccaneers with his skills during the Husted Kicking Pro Camp, hosted by former Bucs kicker Michael Husted, in Mobile Alabama. The event was held during the Reese’s Senior Bowl week back in January. NFL GMs, Head Coaches, and most assistant coaches attend the Reese’s Senior Bowl week every year.
Andersen is currently the only kicker listed on Tampa’s 90 man roster.
Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com reported
“Andersen most recently kicked for the Berlin Rebels of the German Football League and has also played for the Amager Demons, Herlev Rebels and Søllerød Gold Diggers of the Danish American Football Federation, as well as the Berlin Eagles of the GFL. The GFL is the highest level of American football in Germany.”
He also went on to report that Anderson also has experience with punting as well, so his versatile style could be useful if he makes the 53 man roster from a depth perspective. More moves are to be expected, and it is highly doubtful he’ll be the only kicker signed for camp.
