According to TMZ, former NFL star running back, Clinton Portis is facing up to 20-years in prison for “defrauding the NFL and stealing money from the league’s healthcare program.”

The United States Department of Justice says Portis and 10 other former NFL players – Robert McCune, Carlos Rogers, John Eubanks, Correll Buckhalter, Tamarick Vanover, Ceandris “C.C.” Brown, James Bulter, Etric Pruit, and Fredrick Bennett – allegedly conspired to make money off the Gene Upshaw NFL Player Plan. Additionally, it is being said that EX-Saints star Joe Horn, and Tampa native and former NFL wide receiver Reche Caldwell are also being looked at in the investigation. Department of Justice officials say they also intended to press charges against Horn and Caldwell.

According to statements made by Department of Justice officials, the former players made fake claims to which they were reimbursed for medical expenses such as hyperbaric oxygen chambers, ultrasound machines and electromagnetic therapy devices designed for use on horses, etc, in amounts exceeding $3 million before being investigated. 

As of now, 4 men involved have been an arrest, while the remaining had stated that they would turn themselves in to authorities. Names have yet to be released as to who has been arrested. If convicted of these charges, Portis and his cohorts could face a maximum of 20 years behind bars and fines upwards of $250,000 or higher.
